Supercomputer Statement from Minister Varank

Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank, TÜBİTAK attended the conference. At the conference, the Minister also met with his teacher with whom he worked in the USA and made important statements.

Minister Varank “European High Performance Computing Joint Initiative (EuroHPC) We became members, one of the 5 fastest supercomputers in the world We partnered with the center in Barcelona to achieve this. “Our researchers will have access to this supercomputer at the end of next year.” he said.

Minister Varank attended via video conference

Minister of Industry and Technology Varank, TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM and organized by Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University, Prof. Dr. Geoffrey Fox was the keynote speaker. 6th High Performance Computing ConferenceHe attended via video conference.

High performance computing, rapidly growing data generation Stating that it is a critical and exciting technology due to its technology, Varank stated that such events are very important to shape the future in such technologies.

The professor who worked with Varank became the main speaker

Varank, including Geoffrey Fox, with whom he worked in the USA More than 200 researchers He said he got together. The Minister said that Fox is an outstanding professor in his field. "Dr. Fox currently works in the field of applied computer science, from background to analytics, in biology, pathology, sensor clouds, image processing, deep learning, network science, and particle physics. Over the years, he has supervised many PhD students, including Turks. During my graduate studies, he mine too He was my teacher. Also later At Indiana University Pervasive Technology Labs “We worked together.” he said.

Varank, Fox With its visionary and inspiring approach He stated that he remembered it and thanked him for his participation in the event.

TRUBA supercomputer at the service of researchers

of supercomputers rocket, car, high-definition image design, artificial intelligence, machine learning Varank underlined that it is used in many areas such as "While this technology strongly supports new scientific discoveries, it is also becoming more effective in our lives than ever before. This is why Türkiye attaches great importance to the widespread use of supercomputers." he said.

He stated that TRUBA's high-performance and distributed computing center serves all researchers. of TRUBA The Minister explained that the processor power, number of users and scientific outputs are increasing regularly. in 10 years announced that the number of users increased from 454 to over 3 thousand.

TRUBA effect in Covid-19 research

Varank, this thanks to infrastructure explaining that researchers and industry players have easy access to complex systems “Covid-19 During the pandemic, TRUBA supported research into vaccine and drug development. Researchers of Izmir Biomedicine and Genome Center, TRUBA He sequenced the Covid-19 virus structure using In addition, most of TÜBİTAK SAGE's analytical studies are carried out in TRUBA.” he said.

Stating that they want to take TRUBA to the next level, the Minister said: at METU He added that they are building the new generation data center. Stating that the new center will provide many services via open data, Varank, new center European Open Science Cloud He stated that he would become an official member. He announced that they will make polar research data open as a pilot study. He stated that thus, new models can be established with more robust and up-to-date predictions in climate science.

Varank stated that they provide research funding opportunities through TUBITAK. “Complex problems in the fields of health, energy, aviation, space, automotive and logistics with supercomputation "We prioritize research focusing on solving he said.

We became a member of EuroHPC

recently EuroHPC The Minister announced that they are members of “The fastest in the world from 5 supercomputers We have partnered with the center in Barcelona to provide access to one. By the end of next year, our researchers will have access to one of the 5 fastest supercomputers in the world. Thanks to this new system, research results much faster "The design and software will be tested on one of the fastest technologies." he said.

To carry out the training of users and facilitate the industry's access to supercomputers TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM, METU and Sabancı University Minister Varank, who announced that a center of excellence will be built with a holistic view He stated that they have.

Touching on future strategies VarankHe said that it is planned to increase infrastructure investments, improve research grants and train human capital. Minister, “By leading the way in pioneering technologies to become a global competitive power "We aim" he said.
